WAGNER TAKES BOBIK MEMORIAL AT AMP; BRAIM WINS SPRINTS PORTION
CLEARFIELD – Waylon Wagner of Lewistown returned to the speedway where he cut his teeth in a Four Cylinders race many years ago, and picked up the win in the Srock Contracting and Randy Sterling Trucking Fourth Annual Connor Bobik Memorial for the Randy Sterling Trucking Super Late Models.
John Braim of Turbotville copped the Point Brake and Spring Laurel Highland Sprint portion of the event.
The Connor Bobik Memorial hit the speedway with Luke Hoffner and Waylon Wagner on the front row by virtue of the redraw. Wagner took the lead and Hoffner was second. A pile up on lap two saw Shawn Claar nearly end up on his roof. As the crash got cleaned up and the speedway was once again green, it was Wagner out front and as the race wore on Hoffner, Mike Blose, Andrew Gordon and Justin Kann jockeyed for position, it was the help Wagner needed, as he’d opened up a lead by about half a straightaway. The rest of the field was changing like a clock changes, by the second, as Claar was working his way through the field from the earlier crash, and he was bringing Mike Altobelli and Dylan Yoder along. As the race was drawing to a close, it was all Wagner as Hoffner held on for second over Blose, Gordan and Altobelli. Heat wins went to Hoffner, Blose and Gordon.
The Sprints hit the track with Hunter McCracken and Ryan Lynn on the front row, with Lynn taking the lead and holding it for two laps, before Jeff Braim took the lead. As Braim led, Lynn settled into second, but on lap five Ralph Engle Jr. took the lead second spot and left Lynn in third. Lynn, McCracken, “Cowboy” Jim Kennedy and Tyler Denochick were putting on a great race for positions three through six, as Engle was reeling in Braim for the lead. Braim held off Engle for his fourth win of the season. Engle was second with Lynn, Derrick Bowersox and McCracken completing the top five. Heat wins were split between Denochick, Lynn and Tyler Cochran.
PIT NOTES: 42 cars filled the pits, including 23 Late Models and 19 Sprints…The Bobik Family raised $3000 for the Make-a-wish foundation in memory of their son, Connor, who died of cancer at the tender age of five…Braim took home $730 for his win, including $230 for leading 23 of the laps…Wagner took home a cool $3,350 for his efforts, including $350 in lap money… The speedway appreciates everyone’s support helping raise money for the Bobik Memorial…Four states were represented, including: Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia…Coming up this Saturday is a regular AMPed up show for the Late Models, Semi Late Models, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks and Four Cylinders.
