STATE COLLEGE – Preservation work is continuing on four bridges in Centre County. Once rehabilitation work is complete, area drivers will enjoy safer travel on bridges that will remain in service for years to come.
For the week of Aug. 11-16, the contractor will be working on:
Route 64 Bridge (Near Nittany):
- Half of the bridge deck will be poured Monday. Traffic will be regulated with flaggers while this work is being completed. Delays are to be expected.
- The installation of a new bridge deck and parapets.
- A 10-foot width restriction will remain in place into October. Traffic is reduced to a single lane and will still be regulated with temporary traffic signals.
Route 322 Bridge (Overpass at Reese Hollow Road/East Mountain Road Exit):
- Traffic will continue to be reduced to one lane in the westbound direction.
- Work will continue to place a new concrete overlay, install new approach slabs, and concrete repairs.
- Latex modified concrete is to be placed for the deck on Thursday. Work will be performed behind a temporary barrier in the closed right lane.
- A 12-foot width restriction will remain in place into October.
Route 322 Bridge (the End of State College Bypass):
- Guiderail repairs, shoulder work and rumble strip installation. These repairs will require daylight traffic control. Traffic will be reduced to one lane. Flaggers will be in place.
- Abutment repairs will be performed this week. This work will not impact traffic.
Route 3040 Bridge (Julian at Intersection with Beaver Road):
- Structure and concrete repairs.
- A 13-foot width restriction will remain in place until October. Traffic will remain reduced to one lane regulated with traffic signals.
Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. of State College is the contractor on this project, which is expected to finish in October. Overall work will include beam rehabilitation, deck and concrete repairs, guide rail updates, roadway paving, and pavement markings.
Message boards in the area will give drivers advanced warning of restrictions and delays. Drivers are reminded to be alert for flaggers in the roadway, obey posted speed limits, move through work zones with caution and always buckle up.
