CLEARFIELD – The 72nd class of the Clearfield County Career & Technology Center’s (CCCTC) Practical Nursing Program graduated 28 students on July 25.
Cathy Thomas, CCCTC assistant director, welcomed the audience to the event. Elsie Maurer, Nursing Program director, introduced the commencement speaker, Cheryl Krieg, simulation coordinator of the CCCTC practical nursing program.
Diplomas were awarded by the Moshannon Valley School District Superintendent Tonya DeVecchis-Kerr. Graduates were presented for graduation by Tonya Saggese, nursing instructor and nursing pins were awarded by Alene Homan, nursing instructor.
Academic awards were presented to three students with the highest grade point averages in the class: Mercedes Bauman, Kelsey Washell and Jamie Turner.
Certificates of perfect attendance were awarded to Jessica Maines, Adisa Cohen, Kelsey Washell, Lindsay Scalzo, Tracy Strong and Philip Rougeux.
A tribute was provided by Peg Barnes, part-time nursing instructor, in memory of Andrea Stanton, who died Jan. 1. Stanton held the No. 1 ranking academic average in the nursing program prior to her death.
Stanton was a dedicated student and mother of three. It was noted that she was an excellent student also in clinical practice and she was always helpful to others. A tree will be planted at Janesville Dam in her memory.
Patricia McKnight, nursing instructor, led the graduates in reciting the Practical Nursing pledge. Sara Antonuk provided the farewell address.

The nursing program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing Inc. and Pennsylvania Department of Education and approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
