PENFIELD – Officials at the Parker Dam State Park have announced the program schedule for Aug. 8-10.
Friday, Aug. 8
Meteor Showers
8 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater
Some folks have seen shooting stars and other objects while looking towards the heavens. Learn about what causes these night sky phenomena and when your best opportunities for viewing them are. The night sky objects may not all be exactly what you think they are and you may see more than you could imagine. You will be more than prepared for the Perseid meteor shower the week after the program (peak- Aug. 13).
Saturday, Aug. 9Â
Beach Games
3 p.m. – BeachÂ
Learn some traditional games that can be played on the beach. Knee tag, kick stick, and more will be demonstrated and played. Ages nine and up are welcome. Come enjoy the beach in a whole new way.
E-Parachute Games
4 p.m. – Beach
Parachute games with an environmental twist are what await you. Don’t miss this chance to see a real parachute and use it to have fun and discover the natural world. All ages welcome.
The Moon
8 p.m. – Campground AmphitheaterÂ
Learn some interesting information and lore about our moon. The moon’s phases, the terms waxing and waning, and more will be explained in a way that should actually make sense. Don’t forget that the full moon is tomorrow night (Sunday, August 10); so come learn just what it is that you’re looking at.
Sunday, Aug. 10Â
Tea and Talk
7 p.m. – Beach HouseÂ
Come to the beach house and bring your own mug to enjoy a cup of sweet fern/mountain mint tea, gathered right here in the park. The talk will consist of teas, a few trees, and whatever else comes to your inquiring mind.
