DUBOIS – The federal Department of Transportation has selected Silver Airways to provide commercial air service from the DuBois Regional Airport to Washington’s Dulles International Airport, according to Robert W. Shaffer, airport manager.
Silver is affiliated with United Airlines and will fly a 34-seat Saab 340B+ aircraft on three, round-trips daily Monday through Friday. Silver will also fly three weekend round-trips, said Shaffer.
Silver was selected to serve six other cities in the Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia market area, said Shaffer. Silver, he said, will use DuBois as its maintenance facility for the aircraft serving those cities.
Silver employs approximately 35 people at its DuBois facility. This includes mechanics, station agents, crews and administrative staff, according to Shaffer.
Dulles, he said, serves 22.6 million passengers annually to 83 non-stop U.S. destinations on eight airlines with 286 daily departures and 50 non-stop international destinations on 28 airlines with 445 weekly departures.
Shaffer said with service to commence on Oct. 1, the DuBois Regional Airport and its air service partner, Silver, are prepared to provide air service, allowing the citizens of the tri-county area to access the world through the regional airport facility.
