STATE COLLEGE – Work to replace a bridge on Route 2018 (Woodward Cave Road) is expected to finish by the end of the day Wednesday.
Once the new bridge is open, area drivers will enjoy travel across a modern structure and Centre County’s list of structurally deficient bridges will shrink by one.
Weather permitting, paving and guide rail updates will be complete by the end of the work day Wednesday and the detour will be lifted. A detour using Route 2018, Route 2011 (Coburn Road), and Route 45 has been in place since June 19.
The bridge spans an unnamed tributary of Pine Creek just east of the village of Coburn in Penn Township. An average of 125 vehicles crosses the bridge each day.
This $158,000 replacement project was a cooperative effort between PennDOT Centre County Maintenance and contractor G & R Charles Excavating of Port Trevorton.
Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits, follow detour signs, and as always, buckle up.
