Detour will be in place
STATE COLLEGE – Work to replace the Forest Avenue Bridge on Route 1005 in Centre County will start July 14.
At that time, the bridge will be closed and a detour will be in place. When work is completed, Centre County will be able to remove the bridge from Centre County’s structurally deficient list.
The bridge spans Nittany Creek on Route 1005 in Walker Township, about 1.5 miles north of the intersection with Route 550. The bridge was built in 1939, is 15 feet long and carries an average of almost 1,400 vehicles each day.
PennDOT’s official detour will direct motorists to use Route 550 (Zion Road), Route 1005 (Forest Avenue) and I-99. Local drivers may choose to use alternate routes.
Work is scheduled to last until early August. Crews from PennDOT Centre County Maintenance will perform the replacement work, which is weather and schedule dependent. Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits, follow detour signs, and always buckle up.
