Mifflin County Overtakes Clearfield Legion 5-2

LEWISTOWN — Mifflin County, in a close race with DuBois for the Central Penn American Legion League regular season title, rallied past the Clearfield Post 6 baseball team 5-2 Wednesday evening.

Three runs in the sixth inning gave Isaac Strohecker and the hosts the win over Brandon Orsich and the Chiefs, who registered the first runs in the top of the fourth inning.

Cole Kephart doubled home Sawyer Rowles, who had singled, and then scored on a hit by Orsich.

Mifflin County got one run back with the help of a Clearfield error in the lower fourth and tied it up in the fifth on a suicide squeeze bunt by Carter Spade.

In the sixth, Hunter Walker and Max Remy singled and Lucas McKay walked to fill the sacks. One out later, Strohecker plated the winning run with a sacrifice fly. Drew Hannon then provided insurance with a two-run single that capped a perfect 3-for-3 game at the plate.

Both pitchers went the distance on seven-hitters. Strohecker struck out six and walked one while Orsich had one strikeout and two walks.

Clearfield dropped to 7-6 in the CPL, tied with State College for fourth place, and 9-8 overall.

The Chiefs will play again Thursday with Bellefonte visiting the Bison Sports Complex for a 6 p.m. start.
