James M. Smith, 64, of Houtzdale died Thursday, June 26, 2014 at his residence.
Born Feb. 7, 1950 in Philipsburg, he was the son of Doris Kay (Lloyd) Smith of Houtzdale and the late Maurice Smith.
Mr. Smith served with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Osceola Mills F&AM Lodge No. 515 and the American Legion Freeberg Post No. 571, Houtzdale.
He was employed as a corrections officer for 32 years and most recently at the State Correctional Institution at Houtzdale.
On Dec. 14, 2000 in Houtzdale, he married Glenda Adams Smith, who survives at home.
He’s survived by his mother, Doris Kay Smith of Houtzdale; a son James M. Smith Jr. of Tracey, Calif.; and two step-children, Misti Hagens and her husband, Jerrod of Germany and Joshua Brown of Denver, Colo.
Also surviving are a grandson, Jason C. Smith of Tracey, Calif., and two step-grandchildren, Dominick and Kyleigh Hagens of Germany.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Thomas Smith.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Frist United Methodist Church, Houtzdale, with the Rev. Robert Ford officiating.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in the American Legion Cemetery, Brisbin.
