CLEARFIELD – The officers and members of the Clearfield Hobby Garden Club will hold their 55th annual flower show.
The show will take place July 19 at the Clearfield Presbyterian Church in Westminster Hall, 119 N. Second St., Clearfield. The show will be open from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
There isnât any charge to enter the flower show.
This year’s theme is “The Movies” and will be presented in honor of Lois Rougeaux, a life-time member since 1981.  There are three classes a part of the flower show:  horticulture, adult arrangements and children’s arrangements.
The horticulture class has five categories, including 1-A tea roses; 1-B other roses; 1-C Zinnias (any zinnias); 1-D Dahlias (any dahlias); and 1-E lilies (any lilies).
The adult arrangements class has 21 categories with movie titles, including:
- “The Rose” (single rose with greens and ribbon);
- “Whatever Works” (miniature not more than 5.5 inches in any direction);
- “Bringing Up Baby” (pink or blue flowers and accessories);
- “Bell, Book and Candle” (use all three items with any color roses);
- “Cactus Flower” (cactus, succulents, hens and chicks);
- “Field of Dreams” (any wildflowers);
- “Driving Miss Daisy” (arrangement of daisies of any color);
- “Itâs A Wonderful Life” (Christmas arrangements);
- “How Green Was My Valley” (an all greens arrangement);
- “Gridiron Flash” (Penn State colors, blue and white flowers and accessories);
- “The Secret Garden” (a mixed arrangement);
- “The Wedding Planner” (a white arrangement fit for a bride);
- “Hello Dolly” (red or pink flowers, feathers, girlie accents and lots of bling);
- “Guess Whoâs Coming to Dinner?” (seeds, nuts, bark, leaves, dried peas, corn, beans and more to look like food arranged on a dinner plate);
- “Autumn Leaves” (dried flowers, fall-colored flowers and leaves in a basket);
- “Lovely to Look At” (potted plants of entrantâs choice; A-flowering or B-non-flowering);
- “Enchanted Cottage” (a hanging basket of entrantâs choice; A-flowering, B-non-flowering);
- “The Herb Garden” (herbs, any herb arrangement);
- “Ultra Violet” (an African violet of any color, single or double); and
- “Wizard of Oz (best presentation of this movie depicting the theme “The Movies”).
The children’s arrangement class has six categories with movie titles. These include:
- “Doraâs Butterfly Ball” (wildflowers with butterfly accessories);
- “Despicable Me” (potted plants with or without flowers, add minions);
- “Frosty the Snowman” (a white arrangement with a snowman, centers of white flowers can be any color);
- “Barbieâs Pink Shoes” (flowers of the entrantâs choice arranged in a pink shoe or sneaker. The entrant may paint the shoes or sneaker, other accessories are allowed);
- âBambiâ (an all green arrangement with a deer and if desired, other forest animals and forest materials, pine, moss, stones, ferns and more can be used); and
- “The Secret of the Magic Gourd” (use one gourd or more and turn them into something magical. The gourds can be painted and turned into an unusual arrangement, which is the choice of the entrant).
The judges for the flower show are Jan Petrosky and Mary Jo Gomes, both of DuBois, and Gina Hepburn of Penfield.
There will be refreshments and door prizes at the show. Music will be provided by Pat Witherow; Duane Test will share floral arrangement tips; Carrie Baublitz will discuss heirloom gardening; and Janet Billotte will educate on how herbs can affect health and make life easier. The Susquehanna River Art Center will provide floral and garden paintings for viewing.

Pre-entry forms are available and included in the booklet. Forms should be completed and mailed to Jane Hollis by July 1.
By pre-entering, entrants will already be registered and entered in the show. Tags will be prepared for pre-entrants to pick up when flowers or plants are brought in on July 18 from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. or July 19 from 8:30 a.m. – 10:15 a.m.
There will also be entry forms available at the flower show. Once entered, tags will be made for the entries. All arrangements must be registered, tagged and placed on the judging tables by assistants by 10:30 a.m.
Judging begins promptly at 11 a.m. and runs until 12:45 p.m. All arrangements arriving late will not be judged but viewed on another table. Arrangements can be unloaded at the back of the church for easy entry into Westminster Hall.
