CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield man accused of walking up to two, different homes and knocking while naked to get a “reward” from a girl waived his right to a preliminary hearing during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
Ray Jacob Provins Jr., 23, of Clearfield has been charged with open lewdness, disorderly conduct, defiant trespass and loitering and prowling at nighttime. His bail has been set at $5,000 monetary.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on June 13, Lawrence Township police received a report about a male standing naked on a resident’s front porch on Fire Tower Road. Upon arrival the resident told police she was sitting at home when she heard a “loud smacking sound” on her bay window.
When the resident looked out, she observed “a clearly naked man.” She told the man who was later identified as Provins to “get off the porch;” Provins replied, “You don’t understand.” The resident again told the man to get off her porch, or she would contact police. Provins left the home.
While conducting a search of the area, police were approached by a Centra Street resident. His neighbor had contacted him after hearing someone outside of her home and knocking on her door. When no one answered her asking “who is it,” the resident said his neighbor contacted him and activated her car alarm. Police later identified the knocker as Provins.
According to the resident, his neighbor had found a blue Michigan T-shirt, which smelled like smoke and didn’t belong to her. It was lying on a chair on her back porch. The resident told police he’d started walking toward Fire Tower Road and believed he’d heard male voices coming from a wooded area about 15-20 yards away.
Police proceeded to drive down to the field along Fire Tower Road and entered the wooded area on foot. At this point, police observed a male without a shirt on and in jeans walking through the field. When asked, the male – Provins – told police “it was hard to explain and it was a bad prank gone wrong.”
When asked, Provins told police he was fine and didn’t need any medical attention. He was only cold because he didn’t have a shirt on. Then, he told police he’d been set up but didn’t identify who had set him up. When asked, Provins explained a girl called him from a restricted number; he was to meet her on Fire Tower Road.
At this point, police searched Provins and transported him to the station for further questioning. During an interview with police, Provins said that a girl told him to come up to a home on Fire Tower Road. The girl, he said, told him to walk up to the home without any clothes on.
When asked, Provins said he’d gone to the Centra Street home first. When he knocked, he realized the resident’s voice wasn’t that of the girl and he fled toward the wooded area across from Fire Tower Road. The girl, Provins said, contacted him again and told him to “look for the house with all the lights on.”
According to Provins, he observed a home matching the girl’s description. He proceeded to walk up and knocked on the bay window until hearing a woman’s voice yelling for him to get off her porch. He told her she didn’t understand and left, heading back toward the wooded area.
When asked about his attire at the time, Provins said he wasn’t wearing anything. He said he walked up to both homes naked because the girl told him she would “reward” him for doing it. Provins said he couldn’t recall what the reward was supposed to be.
