Veryl Jane Sutika, 89, of Grampian died Tuesday June 24, 2014 at DuBois Penn Highlands after a short illness.
Born Feb. 21, 1925, she was the daughter of Charles and Daisy (Spencer) Danver.
Mrs. Sutika was a homemaker. She was a graduate of the Clearfield High School.
She was a member of the St. Bonaventure Roman Catholic Church in Grampian, where she was a member of St. Theresa’s Guild. She was also a member of the former GFWC Woman’s Club of Grampian.
On July 20, 1946 in Grampian, she wed Andrew J. Sutika, who preceded her in death on Jan. 28, 1998.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Jennifer Sutika; an infant sister, Aldene Danver; a sister, Olive V. Danver and a brother and sister-in-law, Bertrum “Bud” and Inez “Mickie” Danver. She was the last member of her generation.
Surviving are nine children, Andrew “Butch” Sutika Jr. and his wife, Alyce, Carolyn Shaffer and her husband, Donald, Sandra Verrelli and her husband, Gary, Michael Sutika and his wife, Betty Jo and John Sutika and his wife, Cheryl, all of Grampian; Patricia Bressler and her husband, Scott of Olanta; Mary Kay Reiter and her husband, Ronald of Curwensville; Nancy Valenza and her husband, Ronald of Clearfield; and Donna Taylor of Beaver Falls.
Also surviving are 24 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Harzinski and her husband, Raymond of Curwensville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the St. Bonaventure Roman Catholic Church, Grampian, with the Rev. Father Mark J. Mastrian as celebrant and the Rev. Father Joseph P. Staszewski as co-celebrant. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Grampian.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc., Curwensville, and again from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. Friday when the procession will depart for the church.
The Rosary will be recited by members of St. Theresa’s Guild at 6 p.m. followed by Scripture Vigil Services at 7:30 p.m., both Thursday at the funeral home.
The family suggests contributions be made to the Andrew J. and Veryl J. Sutika Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care of, 300 State St., Curwensville, PA 16833.
