CLEARFIELD – Members of Clearfield Presbyterian Church Boy Scout Troop No. 2 participated in the flag ceremony held at the Clearfield Elks on June 13.
Scout members, from left to right, are Greg Stine, scoutmaster; Evan Thompson; Michael Shobert; Josh Baughman; Casen Zitzelberger; Gregory Zitzelberger, assistant scoutmaster; Conner Zitzelberger, Franklin Nelson; and Hayden Colby.
The annual event celebrates the history and majesty of the U.S. flag. For more than 200 years, its stars and stripes have been the symbol of the nation’s strength and unity.
Although the flag has changed more than 63 times, today it consists of 13 horizontal stripes, seven red alternating with six white. The stripes now represent the original 13 colonies, while the stars represent the 50 states of the Union.
The colors of the flag are symbolic as well: red symbolizes hardiness and valor, white symbolizes purity and innocence and the blue represent vigilance, perseverance and justice.
