Betty Lou Quigley, 91 of Buffalo, NY and formerly of Tonawanda, NY and Grampian, died Monday, June 9, 2014 at Kenmore Mercy Hospital in Buffalo, NY.
Born Jan. 30, 1923 in Grampian, she was the daughter of the late Dean and Ruth (Fleming) Haley.
Mrs. Quigley was a graduate of the E.J. Meyer Hospital School of Nursing in Buffalo, NY, where she became a registered nurse. Her nursing career spanned nearly 40 years.
During that time, she was employed as an intensive care nurse and later became the director of nursing at the Sheridan Manor Nursing Home in Kenmore, NY.
She received the Excellence in Nursing Care Award for her work, along with various other honors over the years.
Mrs. Quigley is survived by four children, Carol A. Hansen and her husband, Hal of Quincy, Mass., Bernard W. Quigley of Hamburg, NY, Ruth E. Dillingham and her husband, Scott of Cazenovia, NY and Michael T. “Buck” Quigley and his wife, Heather of Buffalo, NY.
She’s survived by three grandchildren, Michael B. Quigley and his wife, Lindsey, Sean D. Quigley and Sophia C. Quigley; sisters-in-law, Alice McConnell and Helen Waterloo; and a brother-in-law, William Waterloo.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bernard T. Quigley, whom she married on Dec. 21, 1945 in Yuma, AZ, and whom died on Feb. 20, 2010; a sister, Elizabeth Hoyt Wilson; and a daughter in-law, Frances Quigley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at the St. Bonaventure Roman Catholic Church in Grampian, with the Rev Mark J. Mastrian officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. and from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Saturday when the procession will leave for the church.
The holy rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A vigil service will also be said at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
