AMP HAS SIX NEW WINNERS
CLEARFIELD – Luke Hoffner of Turbotville became the fourth different Randy Sterling Trucking late Model winner in as many races Saturday night at America’s Motorsports Park in Clearfield. Hoffner led a list of new winners, as Denny Forney of Mill Hall won the Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub Semi Late feature, John Braim of Turbotville won the Point Break and Spring Laurel Highlands Sprints, Dan Smeal of Ramey won the Srock Contracting Street Stocks, Justin Queen of Irvona won the WG Satterlee Pure Stocks and Jody Frantz of DuBois won the Clearfield County Metals Four cylinders for the first time.
Scott Alvetro and Randy Sterling led the Late Models to the green flag with John Brady taking the lead from his third place starting spot. As the drivers jockeyed for position, Brady set the pace with Alvetro second for the first lap, before Luke Hoffner took the lead a lap later. Brady continued to set the pace with Luke Hoffner now in second. Hoffner chased the leader and tried to work his way into the lead several times, but Brady was holding strong. As they worked lap 10, Hoffner went to the outside of Brady off turn two and took the lead entering turn three. From there Hoffner held off Brady for his first victory of the season. At the line the top five were Hoffner, Brady, Randy Sterling, Alvetro and Derek Rodkey. Heats went to Hoffner and Brady.
The Semi Lates saw Michael Blazer and Stephanie Ivory on the front row to start the main with Ivory leading lap one, as some daring three wide moves were taking place. Neil Wilson then moved into the lead on lap two, as the three wide battles continued, and was pulling away from the field as a caution waved for a spinning Denny Fortney. On the restart Wilson continued to lead with Ivory still second, but Chad Desmett moved around her and into second and was looking for the lead. As the battle was continuing, Forney was coming to the front with a head of steam. On lap 17 Paul Ivory took the lead from Wilson as Forney took second away from Wilson on lap 18 and he took the lead from Paul Ivory on lap 19 and took his first ever AMP win. Paul Ivory was second with Wilson, Desmett and Jason Mullen completing the top five. Paul Ivory won the heat.
Eddie Measaros and new comer John Braim led the Laurel Highland Sprints to Artie Luzier’s green flag with Braim taking the lead and never looking back, as he led the 25 lapper from flag to flag for his first ever AMP win. As he set the pace with a comfortable lead, he was in for a fight as the race neared the finish, with Ralph Engel Jr. running him down, but Brain was able to hold on for the win. At the finish the top five were: Braim, Engel, Cory Thornton, Don Sotosky and James Pryde. Heat wins went to Engel and Braim.
Jamie Price beat Brian Rhed off the line at the start of the Street Stock feature, and set the pace for the first seven laps, then Dan Smeal, using the outside line, made his move on Price and took the lead and the eventual win over Price. Bob Rosman was third with Curtis Teats fourth and Rhed fifth. Heat wins went to Rhed and Price.
The Pure Stocks went green with Brandy Mills and Ron Winslow on the front row, as Winslow took the lead and was setting the pace. While he led, Amber Mills was running a strong race in second with BJ Hudson sitting third and Justin Queen, who initially made a three wide race at the start running fourth.
Two time winner Nick Erskine was coming to the front from his ninth place starting spot, and as he caught Winslow on lap seven the pair ran nose to tail for a few laps, then on lap 11 Erskine went under Winslow for the lead and the pair started to bang on each other to the point where they were tight against each other on the backstretch and racing through the infield throwing the barrels all over the place. This relegated both drivers to the rear and gave Hudson the lead. Queen then took the lead from Hudson with a move on the inside of turns one and two and went on to grab his first ever AMP win. Hudson was second with Erskine third, Amber Mills fourth and Brandy Mills in fifth. Heat wins were split between Queen and Winslow.
Eric Luzier and Garrett Watkins led the Four Cylinders to the green for the final race of the night with Watkins leading at the start with Dustin Kemp in second and Jody Frantz moving into second. Frantz then moved into second on lap five then took the lead on lap eight. He then went on the win the non-stop event for his first ever feature win. Watkins was second, Ryan Shaffner was third, Stephanie Lucas was fourth and Kemp was fifth. Heat wins were spilt between Watkins and Frantz.
