TIPTON – Local master balloon artist and magician Dennie Huber recently was recognized with the Dillman Award during the Children’s Miracle Network at Geisinger Celebration Weekend event.
Huber has been involved with Children’s Miracle Network for the last 20 years and has volunteered his magic and balloon-twisting services for several Children’s Miracle Network fundraising events. Huber was given the award during the live TV broadcast from DelGrosso’s Amusement Park.
“Dennie plays a memorable role in our Breakfast with Santa event, our Easter Egg Hunt, Celebration Weekend and many other events,” said Vanessa Houser, western region coordinator for Children’s Miracle Network at Geisinger.
“I’ll always remember the year he regretfully couldn’t make it to our Breakfast with Santa event. He made balloon animals the night before and delivered giant bags of them to be handed out. He did not want the children to be disappointed.”
The Dillman Award was created in 1999 as an award to be given to an outstanding volunteer for Children’s Miracle Network in the Johnstown-Altoona region.
Jack “Pap Pap” Dillman was the first recipient. Dillman became involved when his grandson, Jesse Moore, was named a Miracle Kid in 1995. Dillman’s dedication and volunteer work for Children’s Miracle Network continued until his death in August 2005. He was 73.
