CLEARFIELD – A woman accused of smuggling Subutex into the Clearfield County Jail waived her right to a preliminary hearing during Centralized Court on Wednesday.
Jessica Marie Anstead, 24, of Clearfield has been charged with criminal attempt/manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver and contraband/controlled substances. Her bail is set at $25,000 unsecured.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on March 16, Lawrence Township police received information that a female, Anstead, entered the jail with drugs. Also, the female had since left.
Upon police arrival, a jail official advised they had received information that Anstead had been smuggling Subutex into the jail. She was allegedly concealing it within the lining of clothing.
On the date in question, Anstead entered the jail to visit her boyfriend and to bring clothes for his cellmate. After receiving information about Anstead, a jail official checked the lining of the clothing.
A jail official completed a property form and used a flashlight to shine through the waistband of a pair of white gym shorts. A jail official discovered a small plastic package concealed in the waistband through the string hole.
The package was found in the same location as the name of Anstead’s boyfriend’s cellmate. His name was written in black marker in the same location as the package.
The jail official notified the warden and then contacted police. Upon arrival police confiscated the shorts and discovered a white powdery substance in a clear plastic bag in the waistband.
Police sent the white powdery substance for further analysis at the Erie Crime Laboratory. The lab results are unknown at this time, according to the affidavit.
