John Nelson Martin, 68, of Clearfield died Thursday May 22, 2014 at his residence after a lengthy illness.
Born June 1, 1945 in Martinsville, Ind., he was the son of James and Hester (Brown) Martin. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and retired from the military in 1983 after 20 years of military service.
After his military service, he had worked for Anderson Equipment Co. and had been a truck driver. He was a lifetime member of the National VFW and also a member of the Clearfield Antique Automobile Club.
On Aug. 15, 1975 in North Pole, Alaska, he wed the former Wava “Sue” Norris, who survives, along with his mother of Martinsville, Ind.
He’s also survived by three sons, Brian Martin and his wife, Tracy, Jeff Martin and his wife, Kit and Wade Martin and his wife, Tracy, all of Martinsville, Ind., eight grandchildren; and three sister sisters and a brother, Nancy Reburn and her husband, Chuck of Linton, Ind., Nina Bullard and her husband, John and Cathy Miller and her husband, Randy both of Martinsville, IN, and Jerry Martin and his wife, Sheryl of Brewton, Ala.
He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Rose Martin
At the request of Mr. Martin, there will be no public visitation and memorial services will be held at a later date in his hometown of Martinsville, Ind.
Burial will be either in the Arlington National Cemetery or the Indiantown Gap Military Reserve National Cemetery in Annville. Military honors will be accorded at the graveside.
