James Barry Bonsall, 73, who lived with the Lori and Pat Quick family of Allport for the past eigt years, died Sunday, May 18, 2014 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College after a brief illness.
Born Feb. 11, 1941 in Lewistown, he was the son of James A. and Dorothy (Haley) Bonsall. After the untimely loss of his mother, he was lovingly raised by his grandparents, the late Alvin and Alice Bonsall.
He was of the Protestant faith sand attended the West Branch Meeting, Religious Society of Friends Meeting House in Grampian. While he lived in Allport, he attended the Lanse Evangelical Free Church.
He was an avid reader, a fan of Pittsburgh baseball and football teams and supported many local sports teams. He loved attending Penn State football games despite his lifelong wheelchair confinement.
Surviving are an aunt and uncle, Helen and Pierce Geist of Bellwood and an aunt, Nan (Haley) Worts of Huntingdon, as well as numerous cousins and many close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-mother, Betty (McCue) Bonsall.
Funeral services for Mr. Bonsall will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville with the Rev. Matt Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in the Friends Cemetery Grampian.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 1 p.m. until time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.
