EMPORIUM – The second prescribed fire of 2014 was 56 acres in Shippen Township, Cameron County, reported the Bureau of Forestry.
It was carried out on May 7 and in totally within a 56-acre fenced area that was cut once to increase sunlight and to stimulate oak and other species to regenerate. The goal of this burn was to reduce the fuel load, control competing vegetation, staff training and release the oak regeneration.
The prescribed fire started at 10:30 a.m. and was completed at 15:30 p.m. Staff from the Elk, Moshannon and Susquehannock State Forest assisted on this project.
