Curwensville Implodes In Sixth Inning To Fall To DCC 10-4

DUBOIS – In the middle of a tight game, the Curwensville Area High School Baseball team self-destructed in the fifth inning to give DuBois Central Catholic the momentum for a 10-4 win on Thursday.

The Golden Tide (5-8) was leading the game 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth when things just fell apart.  The Cardinals went on to score seven runs in their half of the fifth on just two hits.  The Tide walked two batters and hit two others in the frame while committing three of their six errors for the game.

“It’s just a shame to see that kind of inning,” said head coach Denny Johns.  “We have played well on defense all year.  We just picked a poor time to fall apart.”

DuBois Central scored two runs in the first inning before the visitors put up three in the third to grab a 3-2 advantage.

The visitors out-hit DCC 9-6, but that advantage was neutralized by the multiple errors along with three hit batsman and four walks.

Shortstop Tanner Elensky belted a solo home run in the top of the fourth that gave the Tide a 4-2 lead at the time.  Elensky finished the game with two hits as did fellow seniors Brett Gardner and Ricky Magnuson.  Magnuson doubled in two runs in the third.

Catcher Dom Goldbach was the lone Cardinal with multiple hits.

Curwensville will be on the road at Kane Saturday afternoon for a 3:30 start.
