FLINTON – After a week mostly full of rain the Curwensville Area High School baseball team got back to business Friday, defeating Glendale, 8-2 on the Vikings’ home field.
The victory keeps the Golden Tide unbeaten in Moshannon Valley League play at 3-0 and moves their overall record to 4-6 on the year.
Tide senior Brett Gardner gave Curwensville all the runs they would need in the first inning as he smacked a grand slam home run with no outs.
Gardner also went the distance on the mound to pick up his first win on the season, scattering just five hits while giving up just two fifth inning runs to the Vikings.
Kyle Johns, Jake B. Stiles, Alex Olson and Tyler Mays all had two hits each in the 12-hit attack for Curwensville.
Olson and Tanner Elensky had doubles for the Tide.
Matt Schultz led Glendale with two hits, including a double. Teammate Dakota Sinclair also stroked a double.
Tide head coach Denny Johns said after the game, “Brett (Gardner) had a great game today with a strong outing on the mound and getting us off to a fast start, that we needed, with his first inning grand slam home run.”
Johns closed by saying, “I thought we were very strong defensively this afternoon but we have a tough week starting Monday and we need to come out strong against Kane.”
The Golden Tide are at home on Monday, at 4:15 pm, against Kane.
