Matthew H. Greenland, 76, of Rockton died Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at his home in Parrish, Fla.
He was born July 1, 1937 in Philipsburg, a son of the late Hiram and Genevieve (Liegey) Greenland.
Mr. Greenland founded Greenland Construction Inc. in 1972. He attended Karthaus Grade School and was a graduate of St. Francis High School, Clearfield.
He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, the Mosquito Creek Sportsmen’s Club, the National Utility Contractors Association and the Pennsylvania Utility Contractors. In addition, he was also a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge No. 540 and the Loyal Order of Moose No. 97, both of Clearfield.
He is survived by his wife, Janice A. (Kane) Greenland, whom he wed April 28, 1956 in Clearfield and four children, Marybeth Howell of Rockton, Timothy D. Greenland and his wife, Catherine of and Robert F. Greenland and his wife, Franny, both of Clearfield, and Melissa Keen and her husband, Joel of DuBois.
He’s survived by 14 grandchildren, Bethany Livergood and her husband, Bob, Daniel J. Greenland Jr., Mikhail Greenland, Nikki Greenland, Ryan Greenland and his wife Andrea, Amanda Miller and her husband, Christopher, Nathan Greenland, Kelsey Greenland, Brandon Greenland and his wife, Amanda, Melinda Noel and her husband, Tyler, Joshua Greenland, Rebekah Greenland, Jesse Keen and Emily Keen; seven great-grandchildren, Andrew Greenland, Maci Noel, Rex Livergood, Cheryl Livergood, Eli Greenland, Eva Greenland and Milo Greenland; two sisters, Patricia Geppert and her husband, John of New York and Lucille Kephart of Bradenton, Fla.; a brother, Francis Greenland and his wife, Mary Jane of Cleveland, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Daniel J. Greenland; two grandsons, Matthew R. Greenland and Robert T. Keen; three sisters, Joan Greenland, Rosemary Greenland, Madonna Claire Anne Greenland; and two brothers, Edward Greenland and James Greenland.
Private services were conducted at the request of Mr. Greenland. A Mass of Christian Burial was said at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield. Burial followed in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Francis Educational Endowment Fund, 212 S. Second St., Clearfield, or to the American Cancer Society, 26 S. Second St., Clearfield.
