PENFIELD – Officials at the Parker Dam State Park have announced its program schedule for May 9-10
Friday, May 9
Matchless Fire
6 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater
Strike a match and light a piece of paper. That’s how most campfires are started. But what if you had no matches, or lighters or paper for that matter. Being able to start a fire without a match is one of the first skills you learn when mastering wilderness survival. You’ll learn several methods to light a ‘matchless’ fire.
S’mores
6:45 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater
Mmm . . . they’re so good; but where did the idea to make them come from? Do you know where marshmallows, chocolate or graham crackers originated? Learn about all of this and try your hand at making this delicious treat. A limited amount of graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallows will be available.
Saturday, May 10
Hike to the Park Vista
2 p.m. – Lou and Helen Adams CCC Museum
It’s a little more difficult than other park trails, but the payoff is worth it when you reach the top. Come hike the Trail of New Giants, and then to the Vista, where you can gaze down upon Parker Lake from the highest point in the park. Please wear appropriate footwear.
