STATE COLLEGE – A traffic switch will take place next week as preservation work continues on a Route 322 bridge that spans Galbraith Run near Boalsburg. Once rehabilitation work is complete, area drivers will enjoy safer travel on bridges that will remain in service for years to come.
Mid-week, traffic will shift from the north side of Route 322 to the south side. Work will be performed while maintaining a single lane of traffic, regulated by flaggers in the roadway throughout the day.
Drivers should be alert for flaggers and should expect traffic delays. Once the traffic switch is complete, two-way traffic will be maintained but lane-widths will be restricted to 10-feet. Width restrictions will be in place through June. All work is weather and schedule dependent.
This work is part of a $2.2 million contract to preserve four bridges in Centre County. Those bridges include one on Route 3040 in Julian, one on Route 64 near the village of Nittany in Walker Township, and an overpass bridge on westbound Route 322 in Worth Township near the Reese Hollow Road/East Mountain Road exit. Work on the Julian Bridge is under way. Work on the other two bridges will take place later this year.
Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. of State College is the contractor on this project, which is expected to finish in October. Overall work will include beam rehabilitation, deck and concrete repairs, guide rail updates, roadway paving, and pavement markings.
