Bernard G. Gaines, 69, of Winburne died Sunday, April 6, 2014 at his residence. He was married to Shirley Hockenberry Gaines of Winburne.
Born March 9, 1945 in Pottersdale, he was the son of the late Ralph and Amanda Teats Gaines. Mr. Gaines was the groundskeeper for the former Philipsburg Hospital.
He’s survived by six daughters, Susan Barley and her husband, Paul of Altoona, Karen Wolfe and her husband, John of Marion Center, Robin Rainey and her husband, Calvin of Philipsburg, Cindy Chelton and her husband, Ken of Winburne, Bernice Baney of Lock Haven and Shenna Gaines and her companion, Josh Webster of Chester Hill and one son, Patrick Hockenberry and his wife, Holly of Clearfield.
He’s survived by two sisters, Letha Dawes and her husband, Jim and Betty L. McGovern, both of Winburne, one brother, Carl Gaines of Winburne, 25 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Wendy Joy, two brothers, John and James and three grandchildren, Patrick Hazel, Wendy Veneziano and Sara Vaughn.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel of the Strange & Weaver Funeral Home, Morrisdale, with the Pastor Ted Seibert officiating. Burial will be in the Gaines Cemetery, Pottersdale.
Friends will be received from 1 p.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.
