OSCEOLA MILLS – With repair work remaining, PennDOT will close the Osceola Mills truss bridge again on April 7.
The bridge was temporarily re-opened at the end of January for use by area drivers but must be closed again for project completion. The bridge spans Moshannon Creek in Osceola Mills along Route 2051 in Clearfield County and Route 3049 in Centre County.
Once the bridge is closed, a detour will again be in place. PennDOT’s official detour will direct drivers to use Routes 53, 2051 (Curtin Street), 350 (Tyrone Pike) and 3049 (Edendale Road).
Work is expected to finish by June, at which time PennDOT will remove the truss from the Clearfield County list of structurally deficient bridges. Repairs to the bridge began last June and proved to be more extensive than originally planned, requiring crews to work well into the winter months.
With major structural repairs complete, the remaining work on the project includes hydro-demolition of the deck, roadway excavation, drainage, construction of approach slabs, curbing and sidewalk placement, roadway paving, a latex deck overlay and miscellaneous items.
The bridge was originally built in 1932, is 113 feet long and carries an average of 940 vehicles each day. Francis J. Palo Inc. of Clarion is the contractor for this $1.2 million job.
Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits, follow official detour signs, and always buckle up.
