PITTSBURGH (AP) — A federal judge in western Pennsylvania has ruled that a commission correctly valued the site of the Flight 93 memorial last year at about $1.5 million.
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (http://bit.ly/1jPuvB4 ) reports that U.S. District Judge Donetta Ambrose on Wednesday rejected arguments by the previous property owner, Michael Svonavec, and the federal government, which currently owns the site.
The three-person eminent domain commission released its valuation in December for the 275-acre site in Shanksville, about 75 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. Svonavec had argued that the property was worth about $23 million. The government paid $611,000 after condemning the site under eminent domain in 2009.
Flight 93 was traveling from Newark, N.J., to San Francisco when it crashed after passengers fought back against hijackers during the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
