Man Gets State Prison for Aggravated Assault While DUI
CLEARFIELD – A Weedville man is going to state prison for aggravated assault while driving under the influence.
Keith Andrew Romanic, 55, 3682 Gardner Hill Rd., Weedville, pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, DUI, three counts of recklessly endangering another person and summaries. He was sentenced by President Judge Fredric J. Ammerman to a total of 46 months to 11 years in state prison. He was fined $748 plus costs and he must pay restitution of more than $17,900.
Middleton Sentenced to State Prison for Robbing Pharmacy
BELLEFONTE – Brett Middleton of Clearfield was recently sentenced before the Honorable Pamela Ruest to eight to 16 years in state prison and to pay more than $16,000 in restitution for robbing a local pharmacy.
Fire “Significantly Damages” Clearfield Street Residence
CLEARFIELD – The investigation is continuing into a fire that caused significant damage to a residence located at 519 Clearfield St., at approximately 3 p.m. this afternoon, in Clearfield Borough, reported the state police at Ridgway.
CLEARFIELD – The bail for a Morrisdale woman accused of harassing several men who were cutting timber near her home in Cooper Township was revoked.
Patricia J. Dunzik, 66, 102 Krasinski Farms Rd., Morrisdale, is charged with simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, resisting arrest, defiant trespass, hunting without securing license and harassment as the result of an incident on the morning of Nov. 25 when Dunzik, who had a rifle, allegedly yelled at the men to get off her land.
DuBois Man Accused of Running from Police Sentenced to State Prison
CLEARFIELD – A DuBois man accused of running from police was sentenced to state prison during plea and sentencing court in Clearfield County.
Shawn Paul Cutlip, 29, 42 Scribner Ave., DuBois, an inmate of the jail, pleaded guilty to flight to avoid apprehension in one case, criminal trespass, false imprisonment, criminal mischief in a second case, criminal trespass in a third case and retail theft in a fourth case.
CASD Reviews Employee Retirements, Proposed Academic Settings
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Area School District Board of Directors reviewed a list of retirements and proposed academic setting changes during Monday night’s committee meetings.
In January, the district approved an early retirement incentive. The purpose was two-fold to create a savings for the district and also to help with the realignment of staff with the upcoming school building consolidation.
Sandy Twp. Seeks Further Review of Proposed Disposal Injection Well
DUBOIS – The Sandy Township Board of Supervisors have ratified its petition requesting for the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to reconsider its decision to approve the construction of a disposal injection well in Brady Township.
LT Phase III is “Close to Dirt Flying Time…”
CLEARFIELD – Lawrence Township Supervisor Ed Brown reminds residents the Phase III sewage construction project is “close to dirt flying time.” Those needing to must please call the township office to get easements signed and schedule the residential sewage inspections if they have not already done so.
Fair Concert Tickets, Advance Gate Passes to go On Sale March 26
CLEARFIELD – Concert tickets and advance gate passes for the 154th Clearfield County Fair will go on sale at 10 a.m. March 26 on the official fair Web site,www.clearfieldcountyfair.com.
All concert tickets purchased by April 16 will include free gate admission. Tickets purchased after that date will require a separate gate admission pass.
Acting PDE Secretary Announces Changes for Pennsylvanians Seeking GED
HARRISBURG – Acting Secretary of Education Carolyn Dumaresq has announced that the Department of Education is currently finalizing the process for those Pennsylvanians who successfully completed one or more sections of the 2002 GED exam to carry over those scores to the 2014 GED test in order to obtain a Commonwealth Secondary School Diploma.
New York Residents Appear for Court in Drug Cases
CLEARFIELD – Three New York residents who were allegedly found in possession of large amounts of drugs and cash after a traffic stop in Lawrence Township appeared for their preliminary hearings Wednesday during Centralized Court at the Clearfield County Jail.
Bembenic Trial Goes to Jury Today
CLEARFIELD – Yesterday, the trial got under way for a DuBois woman accused of injuring another woman while driving under the influence and causing an accident on Route 119 in Sandy Township in October of 2012.
Kathryn Marie Bembenic, 31, of DuBois is facing charges of aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI; accidents involving death or personal injury; DUI; and recklessly endangering another person.
DuBois Woman Found Guilty of Aggravated Assault by Vehicle While DUI
CLEARFIELD – A jury deliberated for approximately 50 minutes this afternoon before finding a DuBois woman guilty of injuring another woman while driving drunk and causing an accident Oct. 14, 2012 on Route 119 in Sandy Township.
Kathryn Marie Bembenic, 31, of DuBois was found guilty of aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI; DUI; and recklessly endangering another person. She was found not guilty of accidents involving death or personal injury.
Parking and Traffic Issues Brought Before Borough Council
CLEARFIELD – At last night’s meeting, Clearfield Borough Council heard from volunteer firefighter George Proud regarding parking on Cherry Street and from Patty Moyer regarding traffic concerns at the Bridge Street and CVS Pharmacy intersections.
