Woman Gets State Prison in Identity Theft/Drug Case
CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield woman will serve time in state prison for stealing another woman’s identity in order to obtain prescription drugs.
Aszure Gail Luzier, 36, 107 N. Fifth St., Clearfield, pleaded guilty during colloquy court in Clearfield County to identity theft, 16 counts of forgery and possession of a controlled substance.
Woman Pleads Guilty to Selling Marijuana
CLEARFIELD – A Curwensville woman accused of selling marijuana, pleaded guilty during plea and sentencing court in Clearfield County.
Connie Nivotney, 53, 433 Pine St., Curwensville, an inmate of the jail, pleaded guilty before Judge Paul Cherry to two counts of delivery of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was sentenced to 90 days to one year in jail and two years consecutive probation. She was fined $350 plus costs.
Man Pleads Guilty to Selling Drugs
CLEARFIELD – A Mineral Springs man pleaded guilty to selling drugs in Clearfield County Court.
Mark James Hackett, 26, 215 Post Office Rd., Mineral Springs, pleaded guilty to criminal use of communication facility and delivery of a controlled substance. He was sentenced by Judge Paul E. Cherry to nine months to two years in state prison, according to court documents. He was fined $2 plus costs.
RadioShack Plans to Close 1,100 Stores
RadioShack plans to close 1,100 stores. The company, however, hasn’t released a list of which stores will close.
Company officials said that the stores targeted for closures are being selected based on location, area demographics, lease duration and financial performance.
Man Who Escaped from New Bethlehem Police Station Remains at Large
NEW BETHLEHEM – A Westover man who escaped police custody on Monday evening in New Bethlehem is still at large.
New Bethlehem Police Chief Scott Ryan told exploreClarion.com that the search continues for Michael J. Wholaver Jr., 26, of Westover.
Gabler to Host Concealed Carry Seminar
DUBOIS – State Rep. Matt Gabler (R-Clearfield/Elk) will host a concealed carry permit seminar on March 24, at 6:30 p.m. The event will be held at the DuBois VFW, 114 Fuller St., DuBois.
“Whether you are considering applying for a permit or are an existing permit holder, this will be a great opportunity to learn what your rights are, as well as understand your responsibility when interacting with local law enforcement,” Gabler said.
WJAC-TV: Injured Trooper Shares about Road to Recovery

ATLANTA, Ga. – He’s a Pennsylvania state trooper who can neither walk nor move his arms on his own after being shot in the neck in September.
Now, he’s hundreds of miles away from home to undergo specialized treatment at the Shepherd Spinal Center in Atlanta, Ga.
New Veterans Designation Available on Driver Licenses and Identification Cards
HARRISBURG – Surrounded by veterans and members of the Pennsylvania National Guard, Gov. Tom Corbett yesterday kicked off the new Veterans Designation for Pennsylvania driver’s licenses and identification cards.
The designation, an American flag with the word “Veteran” beneath it, will appear on the front of the license or identification card.
CLEARFIELD – Yesterday, Director of Veterans Affairs Betina Nicklas alerted the Clearfield County Commissioners and local residents about a scam in which individuals pose as military service members from overseas.
Last week, a local resident reported being the victim of such a scam to Nicklas. The victim, she said, received an e-mail from someone posing as a military service member who couldn’t come home on leave from overseas.
LT Supers Award Bids for Sewage Project
CLEARFIELD – At last night’s meeting, the Lawrence Township Supervisors awarded bids as recommended by Township Engineer firm, Stiffler, McGraw & Associates Inc., for upcoming sewer projects.
The Sewer Internal TV Inspection bid was awarded to C&R Directional Boring Inc. of Clearfield for $24,966. The Phase III Sanitary Sewer System Improvements bid was awarded to Diehl Contracting LLC of Glen Hope for $1,963,055.
PA Ranks First in Northeast Region for New, Expanded Corporate Facilities
HARRISBURG – Gov. Tom Corbett has announced that Site Selection magazine, a publication specializing in the corporate real estate and economic development field, has ranked Pennsylvania as the top state in the northeast region for new corporate facilities in 2013. Pennsylvania has more successful projects than all other eight northeast states combined.
Woman Accused of Misappropriating More than $16K from County Agency Waives Hearing
DUBOIS – A DuBois woman accused of misappropriating more than $16,000 from a Clearfield County agency waived her right to a preliminary hearing during Centralized Court.
Colette Renee Hamaker, 41, 35 Mustique Court, 20 Treasure Lake, DuBois, faces felony charges of theft by deception and access device fraud. Her bail is $10,000, unsecured.
Hearings Continued in Drug Cases
CLEARFIELD – Yesterday, the preliminary hearings were continued until March 19 for three New York residents who were found in possession of large amounts of drugs and cash after a traffic stop in Lawrence Township.
Sankey to Host Concealed Carry Seminar
CLEARFIELD – State Rep. Tommy Sankey (R-Clearfield) is conducting a concealed carry permit seminar on March 15, at 10 a.m. Grice’s Gun Shop, 216 Reed St., Clearfield, is hosting the event.
“The number of people obtaining concealed carry permits is on the rise,” said Sankey. “This is an opportunity for both current and prospective permit holders to learn the rights and responsibilities associated with concealed carry.”
