A. James Anderson, 70, of Port Matilda died Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at his home after a long battle with cancer, with his loved ones surrounding him.
Born on Nov. 3, 1943 in Jersey Shore, he was the son of the late Arthur James Anderson Sr. and Sara S. (Fogelman) Anderson. On July 12, 1969, he married Lois (Kelly) Anderson, who survives at home.
He’s survived by two daughters, Jody L. Anderson-Lidgett and her husband, Joe of Snow Shoe and Dawn M. Anderson-Walls and her husband, Jason of Warriors Mark.
He’s also survived by eight grandchildren, Olivia and Tanner Adams, Autumn and Alexis Lidgett, Bailey Weaver-Lidgett, Rhett, Mason and Korry Walls and three sisters, Barbara E. McGinnis, Jennie L. Lockhart and Kathy L. Coffey.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley G. Anderson and Carol Jean Skelly and a brother, David C. Lockhart.
He graduated from State College Area High School in 1962 and entered the U.S. Navy in 1964. He is a Vietnam veteran and served aboard the Destroyer USS Jenkins DD447.
He was employed by Corning Glass Works in State College from 1967 until his retirement in 2003. He was also employed as a grounds keeper for six years at the Skytop Golf Club and was a Patient Transporter at The Meadows.
He was a lifetime member of the Port Matilda Sportsman’s Club and Tin Can Sailor. He was also a member of the Port Matilda American Legion Wilson Patton Post 536 and the Bald Eagle Sportsman’s Club.
Mr. Anderson was an avid hunter and belonged to the Mellott Hunting Camp. His love of family was unconditional.
A funeral service with full military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Halfmoon Christian Fellowship Church, 1776 Halfmoon Valley Rd., Port Matilda, with Pastor Todd Templeton officiating. Burial will be at Friends Cemetery, Halfmoon Township.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. -8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until the hour of services Friday at the church.
