Richard S. McLain, 77, of Smokerun died, Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014 at his residence.
He was born Jan. 14, 1937 in Lancaster, a son of the late Frank and Mary McLain. He served in the U.S. Army/Air Force in Sumter, SC and Tripoli, Libya, where he was a parachute packer.
He worked as a plumber for Young’s Plumbing and Bechtol Plumbing, both in Lancaster County, until he retired.
On July 9, 1988, he married Elizabeth J. “Jane” (Cardwell) McLain, who survives, of Smokerun.
He is survived by four daughters; Laurie Cantey (Brian) and Margaret Ann Bragg (Joel), all of Lancaster County; Helen Kathleen Kuchlewski of Levittown, NY; and Elizabeth Joy Siechrist (Mike) of York County; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He’s survived by five brothers and a sister, Frank, Robert, Theodore (Norma) and David McLain, all of Lancaster County, and James McLain and Mary Hull (David) of South Carolina and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Ronald Armstrong, three grandchildren and a brother, Paul.
Mr. McLain enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, woodworking, going to yard sales and doing lawn work.
At his request, there will be no public visitation or memorial service.
