CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. has announced the capture of a wanted fugitive.
Shaw identified the fugitive as Paul Edward Fleming, 20, of Calvary Road, Clearfield. Fleming was added to the Clearfield County Fugitive of the Week list on Jan. 6.
On May 28, 2013, Officer Julie Curry of the Lawrence Township police filed a criminal complaint against Fleming. Fleming was charged with accidents involving death or personal injury; accidents involving death or personal injury while not properly licensed; duty to give information and render aide; immediate notice of accident to police department; and drivers required to be licensed.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on April 14, 2013, the Lawrence Township police were dispatched to the area of 115 21st St. for a vehicle accident involving injuries and individuals who were fleeing the scene. Upon arrival at the scene, police encountered a passenger of a vehicle that had been wrecked. He had an injury to his face and was also bleeding.
A witness stated that after the accident, two individuals left the scene. Upon investigation it was found that Fleming was the operator of the vehicle at the time of the accident. Immediately after the accident, Fleming fled the scene.
A preliminary hearing was scheduled for July 3, 2013, at which time all charges were held for court. On Nov. 7, 2013, Fleming failed to appear for criminal call, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Shaw stated that an anonymous tip to the Clearfield County Crime Stoppers provided the location of Fleming. On Jan. 14, officers from the Clearfield Borough Police Department apprehended Fleming at a residence in Curwensville, and he was taken into custody without incident. Fleming is currently lodged in the Clearfield County Jail.
