YORK — Freshman Krystal Wriglesworth (Clearfield) broke the California University of Pennsylvania record for the 100-yard backstroke Saturday after helping the Vulcan 200 medley relay team earn sixth-place points Thursday at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships in the Graham Aquatic Center.
Wriglesworth, whose qualifying time of 59.86 seconds for the 100 back was tied for 12th, set her school record by touching the wall in 58.39 to place seventh in the preliminaries for a spot in the ‘A’ finals, where she was eighth in 58.85 to earn 11 points for the Vulcans.
She knocked nearly two-tenths of a second off the previous California record set in 2012.
In other individual events, Wriglesworth finished 20th in the 200 back prelims in 2:13.42, which was a personal-best by almost three seconds, and 41st in the 50 free in 25.41.
Wriglesworth swam the leadoff backstroke leg in 27.33 for the 200 medley relay team that finished sixth in a season-best 1:47.54 to add 26 points to the Vulcan total.
California was sixth with 305 points in the 13-team meet dominated by West Chester with 893 points.

WRESTLING
WILLIAMSPORT — Freshman 157-pounder Nolan Barger (Clearfield) logged a decision as Lycoming (13-8) defeated Stevens Institute of Technology 24-15 in its dual meet finale at Lamade Gym Feb. 19.
Takedowns in the first and second periods were the key’s in Barger’s 6-4 win over Leo Wortman (Bellefonte).
Barger wound up 13-5 in dual meets and will take a 26-10 record into the NCAA Division III Mideast Region Tournament at York College Sunday.

WOMEN’S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD
KENT, Ohio — Clarion freshman Jessica Shomo (Clearfield) lowered her personal record for the 60-meter dash to 8.27 seconds at the Kent State Tune-Up in the Kent State Fieldhouse Saturday.
She crossed the finish line 33rd among 60 sprinters, most representing 24 schools, with some racing unattached.
Her previous best time was 8.4.
St. Francis (Pa.) freshman Rebecca Johnson competed in the 3,000 meters for the first time and was clocked in 12:01.29 for 41st place among 53 finishers.
Shomo will be competing in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships at Gerhard Fieldhouse on the Bucknell campus Saturday and Sunday.
