Edward F. Traveny, 83, of Williamsburg, Ky. died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014 at Thomson-Hood Veteran Center in Willmore, Ky.
Born Nov. 26, 1930 in Coalport, he is the son of Frederick A. Traveny and Annabelle (Irwin) Traveny. He married the love of his life, Evelyn J. Klamar, on Sept. 15, 1956. She preceded him in death on Aug. 23, 2004.
He is survived by one son, Edward J. Traveny (Janis) of Williamsburg, Ky.; two daughters, Deborah L. Linder (James) of Bellevue, Ohio and Michelle T. Skaggs (Stoney) of Shreveport, La.
His three grandchildren meant the world to him, Ty Linder and Drew Linder of Ohio and Ethan Skaggs of Pennsylvania. He treasured his two sisters, Evelyn Janocko (John) of Morann and Eileen Shaffer of Bellevue, Ohio.
He also adored his nephews and their families, Tom Janocko (Melissa) and Tim Janocko (Trina) of Clearfield and Scott Shaffer, Steve Shaffer and Shawn (Shadow) Shaffer of Ohio, as well as beloved great-nieces and nephews and an aunt whom he adored, Ruth Reiter of Coalport.
He is also survived by in-laws through his marriage. They are Jackie Walsh (Pat) of Idaho, Nancy Wettach of New Hampshire and Dennis Klamar of Ohio, as well as nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Coalport-Irvona High School in 1949 and played baseball for the Philadelphia Phillies until he served his country in the U.S. Air Force in Korea. He also served as a game warden in Pennsylvania and was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed working and playing at his hunting camp in Ridgway.
He lived in Bellevue, Ohio for more than 30 years, where he was a baseball and men’s softball coach. He devoted his time to mentoring and coaching many athletes throughout his life. He touched many lives and was known to all by “Pap.” He was last employed as a girl’s softball coach at Williamsburg Independent School.
He was a member of the Richard L. Beers VFW Post 7043 in Coalport and the Coalport L.O.O.M. 350.
Friends will be received from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. Monday at the Lloyd-Dimmick Funeral Home, Inc., Irvona. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Beaver Valley Cemetery, Flinton. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to Disabled American Veterans.
