Paul D. Witherite, 88, of Curwensville died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014 at his home.
He was born May 10, 1925 in Clearfield, a son of the late Howard C. and Flossie A. (Wiley) Witherite.
Mr. Witherite was employed all of his life as a heavy machine mechanic and drag line operator in the coal mines, retiring from Simca Mining. He enjoyed fishing and camping with his family and was a life-long member of the Cherry Corner Bible Church, Curwensville.
A veteran of the U. S. Navy, Mr. Witherite served during World War II.
He is survived by three children, Robert A. Witherite and his wife, Glenna L. and Kathryn M. Wills and her husband, Dennis G., both of Curwensville, and Diana R. Floyd and her husband, Douglas E. of Mineral Springs; seven grandchildren, Mark Witherite and his wife, Jenna, Keith Witherite and his wife, Paula, Pam Witherite, Missy Witherite, Michael Wills and his wife, Erin, Jennifer Floyd and Allison Floyd; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marie (Hawk) Witherite in April of 1979. He was also preceded in death by a son, Daniel P. Witherite; two sisters, Lorraine Witherite and Doris Spencer; and a brother, Harold Witherite.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Curwensville, with the Rev. M. Bruce Dimmick officiating. Burial will be in the Watts Cemetery, Curwensville.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
