CLEARFIELD – Colonial Courtyard at Clearfield will hold an open house event at its new office space, as the senior living community takes another step in the rebuilding process since a June 25 fire destroyed the former facility .
ARC Providing Assistance after Apartment Fire in DuBois
DUBOIS – The American Red Cross PA Heartland Chapter is committed to assisting after devastating home fires and disasters in the area. Just this past weekend, local volunteers responded to a multi-unit apartment fire on East Park Avenue in DuBois and are currently assisting the displaced families with their immediate needs.
DOC Reports Slowest Growth in Inmate Population Since 1971
HARRISBURG – Last year, Department of Corrections (DOC) officials reported the first significant decrease in the inmate population since 1971. At the end of 2013, officials discovered that the state’s prison system has experienced the smallest increase in the inmate population growth, all while the state’s crime rate remained flat.
Speaker Smith Not to Seek Re-Election to the Pennsylvania State House

CLEARFIELD – State Rep. Tommy Sankey (R-Clearfield) is sponsoring legislation that would repeal Pennsylvania’s Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards Act. House Bill 1912 currently sits with the House Consumer Affairs Committee, of which Sankey is a member.

CLEARFIELD – The Huston Township tax collector who recently resigned has turn over her 2013 tax records, reported Clearfield County Commissioner Mark B. McCracken at yesterday’s regular meeting.
State Officials Urge Citizens to Prepare for More Severe Winter Weather
HARRISBURG – State officials are urging the public to pay attention to forecasts calling for heavy snow across the eastern half of Pennsylvania, with snowfall to begin Wednesday night and continue into Thursday.
Corbett Activates State Emergency Operations Center Ahead of Major Winter Storm
HARRISBURG – Gov. Tom Corbett has ordered the activation of the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) in anticipation of a significant winter storm that is projected to bring as much as a foot or more of heavy snow to parts of eastern Pennsylvania.

Hearings Continued for Woman Accused of Selling Heroin
CLEARFIELD – A woman accused of selling heroin to a drug task force officer had all seven of her preliminary hearings continued until Feb. 26 during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
Judge Revokes Artiola’s Probation
CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield woman accused of violating her probation on a theft charge by committing another theft was sentenced in Clearfield County Court.
Cara Marie Artiola, 32, 315 Reighard St., Clearfield, must serve 30 days to one year in jail and one year consecutive probation for theft by failure to make required disposition of funds.
Gabler Expresses Outrage at EPA Injection Well Approval
DUBOIS – The federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has approved a permit to allow construction of an underground disposal injection well in Brady Township, Clearfield County. State Rep. Matt Gabler (R-Clearfield/Elk) issued the following statement in reaction to the EPA decision:
NRF: Severe Winter Weather Cripples Retail Sales
WASHINGTON – Consumers leveled off post-holiday shopping and spending in the beginning of the year due in part to severe winter weather in much of the country.
According to the National Retail Federation – the world largest retail trade association – January retail sales, excluding automobiles, gas stations and restaurants, were flat seasonally adjusted month-to-month yet increased 3.0 percent unadjusted year-over-year.
EPA Wrongly Issues Elk County Injection Well Permit, Says Gabler
JAMES CITY – State Rep. Matt Gabler (R-Clearfield/Elk) is addressing an Erie Times-News story that a permit issued by the Federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for an underground injection disposal well in Highland Township, Elk County, is based on false testimony.
Elderly, Handicapped and Lower-income Philipsburg Residents to Get Home Repairs
PHILIPSBURG – As many as 70 local residents may benefit from the work provided by a projected 400 adult and youth volunteers at the Philipsburg Group Workcamp 2014.
The Workcamp, scheduled for July 27-Aug. 2 will provide free home repairs through the Group Workcamps Foundation program. This camp is the fourth time that Central Pennsylvania Community Action (CPCA) has co-sponsored Group Workcamp. CPCA has raised more than $19,000 so far to bring Workcamp back to the community in 2014.
