Melford G. Teats, 72, of Grassflat died Monday, Feb. 10, 2014 in McKean County. Born Aug. 14, 1941 in Pottersdale, he was the son of the late Ai B. and Freda Smith Teats.
Mr. Teats was a member of the Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lanse. He was a truck driver. Mr. Teats was a member of the Grassflat Lodge No. 941 and a life member of the Grassflat Fire Department.
He married Norma Jackson Teats on Nov. 16, 1961 in Karthaus. She preceded him in death on June 2, 2013.
Mr. Teats is survived by two daughters, Wanda Kritzer and her companion, Randy Martin of Morrisdale and Wilma Teats of Grassflat and five sons, Melvin and Michael Teats and his companion, Bernice of Clearfield, Mark and Matthew Teats, both of Grassflat, and Milton Teats of Morrisdale.
He is survived by a sister, Esther Teats of Osceola Mills, two brothers, William Teats of Philipsburg and Gerald Teats of Karthaus, a special daughter whom he loved, Thurza James of Grassflat; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Martin Teats, a sister, Lilian Reiter and two brothers, Grayden and Ai Teats Jr.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lanse, with the Rev. Matthew Finney officiating. Burial will be in the Grassflat-Lanse Lutheran Cemetery, Grassflat.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
