ALLIANCE, Ohio — Clarion freshman Jessica Shomo (Clearfield) won the long jump with a leap of 5.07 meters (16 feet, 7¾ inches) at the Jim Wuske Invitational in Mount Union University’s Peterson Fieldhouse Saturday.
Shomo already was in first place among the 23 entries from 11 of the 14 schools in the meet when she qualified for the 2014 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships with her personal-record jump on her sixth and final trip down the runway.
Shomo also qualified for the finals in the 60-meter dash, placing eighth among 24 sprinters in 8.45 seconds, and then finished ninth by lowering her personal best to 8.40.

UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State senior Gwenn Porter (Clearfield) set a personal record by running the mile in 5:10.43 Saturday at the Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup in her last appearance on the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track at the Indoor Multi-Sport Facility.
She placed 19th among 22 runners from six of the eight teams in Penn State’s final home meet.
The Lady Lions, who climbed 27 places to No. 20 in the latest United State Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association national rankings, easily won the title with 228.5 points.

WRESTLING
MILLERSVILLE — Freshman 157-pounder Nolan Barger (Clearfield) accounted for half of Lycoming’s points with a fall in a 24-12 loss to Millersville Saturday.
He pinned Zac Wawrzyniak-Bush in 5:21 and now is second among the Warriors in bonus-point wins with 11, including five falls and a team-high three technical falls.
Barger, who was named Warrior of the Week February 3 following a pin against Alfred State and a technical fall against King’s, has a 24-10 record.
He’s 11-5 in dual meets for the 11-8 Warriors.
