CLEARFIELD – A Houtzdale woman accused of brandishing a handgun during a confrontation waived her right to a preliminary hearing during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
Jane Louise Weik, 50, of Houtzdale has been charged with simple assault, terroristic threats, disorderly conduct, harassment and public drunkenness. Weik’s bail was originally set at $50,000 monetary but was modified to unsecured at the preliminary hearing.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Jan. 28, Decatur Township police responded to an altercation between the victim and Weik on Elizabeth Street in Houtzdale. Upon arrival police spoke to the victim who was in Houtzdale to visit with his grandparents. The victim attempted to turn his vehicle around, at which time it became stuck in a snow bank.
He told police while attempting to get his vehicle out of the snow bank Weik exited her residence and confronted him about causing a disturbance. He eventually got his vehicle out of the snow bank and continued back down the roadway.
At that point, the victim said as he exited his vehicle, Weik confronted him, and this time she brandished a handgun. The victim told police Weik said that “if you keep being an [expletive], I’ll shoot you right now.”
Police subsequently located Weik when she was walking out of her residence with her husband. Weik was taken into custody and placed into the police vehicle. Police detected a moderate odor of alcohol coming from Weik and obvious signs of her being under the influence.
During an interview, Weik admitted to confronting the victim with a handgun because he was causing a disturbance. The victim, she said, was spinning out and driving recklessly. Weik told police she became agitated with the victim driving recklessly and when he became disrespectful, she confronted him about it.
At that point, Weik admitted to going into her residence and retrieving a handgun to confront the victim again. Weik told police she took the handgun back into the residence after confronting the victim and placed it on top of a filing cabinet. With permission and the assistance of Weik’s husband, police located the handgun and seized it as evidence.
