LeRoy Fye, 71, of Curwensville died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014 at his residence after a lengthy illness. Born Aug. 6, 1942 in Henderson Township, he was the son of Glenn and Olive (Sylvis) Fye.
He had worked for the former DuPont, BERG and F.C.I. Electronics as a tool and die maker. He was also an engineer at various locations for more than 35 years.
He was a member of the St. Timothy’s Roman Catholic Church in Curwensville. He was a former member of Assumption of Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Sykesville. He had served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
He was a life member of the Sykesville Volunteer Fire Department and a founding member of the Sykesville Ambulance Service. He was a former member of the Sykesville Borough Council.
He was also a member of the Rescue Hose and Ladder Company in Curwensville and held various offices. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He helped chair the antique car show at Curwensville Days. He was a former member of the Sykesville Lions Club, where he chaired the annual pancake fry.
He helped with the Last Raft and was the founder and coach of midget football in Sykesville, where he won championships in 1976 and 1977. He also coached little league baseball in Sykesville.
He was an avid supporter of the Curwensville football program, where he coached and painted the lines for more than 20 years. He was an avid Steelers, Pirates and Penn State fan. He was an avid fisherman and golfer and a former member of Eagles Ridge Golf Club.
On May 17, 1980 in Delaware, he wed Cindy Caldwell, who survives, along with four children, LeRoy R. “Chip” Fye Jr. and his wife, Beth and Lynn Fye, both of Virginia, Jackie Holland and her husband, Lee of New York and Shawn Fye and his wife, Rose of Curwensville.
He’s survived by a step-daughter, Tracey Moore and her husband, Drew of Grampian; three grandsons, Christopher Fye, Kamden Fye and Nicholas Brewer; three step-granddaughters, Heather Hepfer, Kylei Moore and Cheyenne Moore; three step-great-grandchildren; and a father-in-law, Fred Cline.
In addition, he’s survived by a brother, Harold Fye and his wife, Joyce of Georgia and a sister, Nancy Breth and her husband, Larry of Punxsutawney
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at the St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church in Curwensville with the Rev. Father Mark J. Mastrian as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Crown Crest Memorial Park in Hyde.
Friends will be received from 3 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville.
The Rosary will be recited at 2:45 p.m.; a Scripture Vigil service will be conducted at 7 p.m.; and a fireman’s memorial service will be conducted at 7:45 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Timothy’s Roman Catholic Church, the Rescue Hose and Ladder Company, Station 8, Curwensville, or the Bob Perks Memorial Fund, c/o the Nathaniel D. Yingling Cancer Center.
