Edward “Ed” Daniel Rissmiller, 89, of Port Matilda and formerly of State College and Cape Coral, Fla., died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014 at Windy Hill Village, Philipsburg.
Born in Catasauqua on Feb. 10, 1924, he was the son of the late Rev. William H. and Pelagaria I. (Berezko) Rissmiller.
On July 27, 1946 at the Port Matilda United Methodist Church, he wed Katherine (Blazosky) Rissmiller, whom died June 30, 2011. They celebrated more than 60 years together.
Mr. Rissmiller is survived by his sons, Michael Rissmiller of Raleigh, NC and Dennis Rissmiller of Port Matilda; his daughter, Kay Lipsitz of York; four grandchildren, Jeremy Campbell of Maryland, Matthew Rissmiller of Connecticut, Mollie Crump of York and Tanya Rissmiller of State College; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his recent companion, Judy Litz.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the Philippines and Japan during World War II. He was employed at the Centre Daily Times as a printer and retired in 1986 after 40 years of service.
For more than 50 years, he was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, State College. He was recently attending Trinity United Methodist Church, Philipsburg.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date and time to be announced. Burial will be at the Port Matilda Presbyterian Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
