PHILIPSBURG — The Philpsburg-Osceola Mountie wrestling team celebrated their 75th Anniversary of wrestling on Tuesday night with a big win in front of a packed house over long-time rival Clearfield.
Boasting six wrestlers with 20+ wins, the favored Mounties (10-5) picked up seven falls and one technical fall to easily defeat the Bison 53-21.
The match started at 152 and the Bison found themselves in an 18-0 hole before picking up their first win – a fall by 195 pounder Travis Ogden (22-10).
Clearfield’s Jake Verhick (19-7) won at 285 to set the score at 24-9 in favor of the Mounties when the match turned the corner to the lightweights.
Once there, P-O stretched their lead to 35-9 before the Bison would put up back-to-back wins for the only time during the match.
At 120 and 126 respectively, Logan Gilbert (17-12) and Josiah McClarren (17-11) notched falls to draw the match closer at 35-21.
The Mounties, though, would close out the meet with three straight second period falls to set the final at 53-21.
The Bison (9-6) will be back in action on Monday night when they travel to Huntingdon to face the District 6 AA Team Wrestling champion Bearcats.
