Kenneth L. Coon, 94, of Clearfield died Monday, Jan. 27, 2014 at the Ridgeview Elder Care and Rehabilitation Center, Curwensville.
He was born Oct. 3, 1919 in Goshen Township; he was the son of Clarence “Del” and Anna (White) Coon.
Mr. Coon was affiliated with the Goshen United Methodist Church and the Clearfield Alliance Church.
He was retired from the Lingle Coal Company after 20 years as a coal miner and E.M. Brown after 20 years as a drill operator.
Mr. Coon was veteran in the U.S. Army and served in Japan during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Frances E. (Taylor) Coon of 75 years. They were married on Jan. 1, 1939 in the Goshen family residence.
Also surviving are three children, Marjorie J. Coyle and her husband, John “Jack” of North Carolina, Kenneth E. Coon and his wife, Marcia of Fort Wayne, IN and Deborah K. Irwin and her husband, Roger of Clearfield; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joan Denochick of Clearfield and Buanna Cardinale of Warren, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Coon was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Stacey Allen Coon; and four brothers, Archie, Glen, Ross and Nile Coon.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc. of Clearfield with Dr. Duane A. White officiating.
Burial will be at Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde. Military Honors will be accorded at the funeral home by the Clearfield American Legion Post No. 6 and the VFW Post No. 1785 Honor Guard.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 9 p.m. Friday and from 2 p.m. until the hour of the service Saturday at the funeral home.
