Edith W. Barger, 85, of State College and formerly of Clearfield entered into God’s eternal care on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014 at the Brookline Nursing Home at the Fairways, State College, where she was surrounded by her family.
She was the wife of the late Robert Barger, whom she married on Sept. 3, 1949. Born Sept. 2, 1928 in Philipsburg, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Harriet (Matthews) Walls.
Mrs. Barger was employed as an operator for Bell Telephone and retired after 35 years. She was a member of 4-H and taught sewing. She volunteered at the gift shop at the Clearfield Hospital and had more than 3,000 hours of volunteer service.
She was a 1946 graduate of Philipsburg High School. She never missed a day of school until her senior year when she skipped school to go to the movies.
She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Clearfield, and the Christian Women at the church. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 379 and a Worthy Matron in 1995. She was involved with the Clearfield Woman’s Club, Hobby Garden Club, Verizon Pioneers Association and NON.
Surviving are two daughters and two sons, Richard Barger and Kim Weir and her husband, Randy, both of Clearfield; Hollie Woodle and her husband, David of State College; and Mark Barger and his wife, Sherri of Helena, AL;
Also surviving are even grandchildren, Stephanie Biron and her husband, Michael, Adriane Woodle, Kaila Hamilton and her husband, Daniel, Lauren Barger, Bryce Barger, Ryan Weir and his wife, Wendy and Lacey Lawing and her husband, Dwight; and one great-grandson, Michael David Biron.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; twins, Pam and Paul Barger; and two brothers, Richard Walls and Robert Walls
A service to celebrate the life of Edith W. Barger will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc. of Clearfield with the Rev. Dr. Joleen A. Willis officiating.
A time to share memories and have an opportunity to view will be held from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.
