DUBOIS – DuBois Central Catholic (DCC) gained a season split in boys basketball action with the Curwensville Golden Tide Monday night in DuBois, 64-55.
Earlier this season, in Curwensville, the Tide beat the Cardinals 63-55.
The win for the Cardinals was its fourth straight and gives DCC an overall mark of 11-4 on the 2013-14 campaign. Curwensville drops to 7-6 on the year.
The teams played evenly through the first 16 minutes, as at the break, it was all tied at 30-30.
The second half was different though as DCC outscored Curwensville in each period,14-10 and 20-15, to grab the victory.
DCC junior guard Dane Aucker had a huge night, leading all scorers with 29 points. Aucker had five three-pointers on the evening.
Timmy Kentoski helped the DCC offense with 12 points.
Curwensville had three players in double figures with Tanner Elensky hitting for 19, Brett Gardner with 16 and Kyle Johns adding 10. All three are seniors.
Gardner had four treys, while Elensky had three from beyond the arc.
DuBois Central Catholic had an enormous margin in free throw attempts, making 22 of 35 while the Golden Tide hit two of six.
In the junior varsity battle the Cardinals also won, 43-30, over the young Golden Tide.
The Tide are on their home court Wednesday night to take on the Glendale Vikings, with junior varsity action starting at 6 pm and the varsity to immediately follow.
On January 16 the Vikings edged the Golden Tide in overtime 56-55 at Glendale.
