NORMAN, Okla. – A reported shooting on the University of Oklahoma’s main campus could have been a false alarm, according to authorities.
The university’s official Twitter site posted about a shooting incident at Gould Hall just before 12:30 p.m., or 11:30 a.m. local time. The university advised students to shelter in place.
WJAC-TV’s sister station KOKH-TV in Oklahoma City has reported that at about 12 p.m. local time, university officials announced via Twitter that “no evidence has been found of any shots being fired,” and “there are no injuries reported at this time.”
KOKH has reported Norman police were requested to assist university police with the investigation at about 11:15 a.m. local time. Several police departments and university officials were at the scene in the area of Gould Hall. Norman is about 20 minutes south of Oklahoma City.
This reported shooting incident comes almost 24 hours after a teaching assistant was shot and killed in a building on the Purdue University campus in Indiana. Police said Purdue student, Cody Cousins, shot and killed fellow student Andrew Boldt.
Police believe Cousins had targeted Boldt. The investigation into the Purdue shooting is ongoing.
