BRADFORD TOWNSHIP – A 30-year-old Philipsburg man, Joshua G. Burley, was flown to Altoona with severe injuries after a three-vehicle accident Monday on U.S. Route 322 in Bradford Township, reported the state police at Clearfield.
Burley was traveling westbound while Mitchell J. Stephens, 26, and Nichole L. Stiles, 35, both of Clearfield were traveling eastbound. For unknown reasons, the Burley vehicle abruptly swerved into the eastbound lane, state police said.
As a result, the Burley vehicle struck that operated by Stephens. This caused the Stephens vehicle to strike the guiderails. After the initial impact, the Burley vehicle started to spin counterclockwise and continued in a westerly direction.
At that point, state police said the Burley vehicle struck the rear end of Stiles’ vehicle. Both the Burley and Stiles vehicles came to a rest at their point of impact in the middle of the roadway.
The Stephens vehicle continued to travel in an easterly direction while crossing the westbound lane. It exited off the north berm and struck shrubbery in a yard and came to a rest.
All three operators were wearing their seatbelts. Stiles was transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Stephens wasn’t injured. All three vehicles sustained severe damage and were towed from the scene, state police said.
State police were assisted at the scene by the Bigler-Jackson-Woodland, Lawrence Township, Clearfield Borough and Hyde fire departments, Clearfield Emergency Medical Services and Stat MedEvac.
