CURWENSVILLE – The Curwensville Lady Tide (7-4) lost their second tight game in three nights when then fell in an Allegheney Mountain League crossover game to Johnsonburg 47-43 at Patton Hall on Friday night.
The hosts were up 24-19 at the half and stretched the lead to 32-24 around the halfway point of the third period when the Rammettes finished the frame on an 8-0 run to tie the game at 32 heading to the final frame.
Chelsea Benson then scored 11 of her team high 23 points to lead Johnsonburg (4-9) to the come-from-behind road victory.
Lady Tide Head Coach Rusty McCracken summed up the game afterwards with, “It was a game we definitely let slip away. We were in control for about three-and-a-half quarters and couldn’t finish them off.”
Junior Ciara Strickland did her best to keep her team in the game, scoring 12 of the Lady Tide’s 19 second half points. For the game, Strickland netted 27 to lead all scorers.
“Ciara turned in a solid shooting performance and kept us in the game despite a box-and-one in the second half,” McCracken added. “We just didn’t finish down the stretch when we beat the press, and they took advantage of our misses.”
The Lady Tide will step outside the league in their next game with a trip to Glendale on Monday night for their first road test since January 3.
