CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Charitable Foundation recently awarded grants to nine local community agencies and organizations.
- Cen-Clear Child Services Inc. received $750 for its Project PLACE (Promoting Literacy through Adult/Child Education);
- The Children’s Aid Society in Clearfield County was given $750 for the Nurturing Parenting Program;
- The Clearfield Revitalization Corp. received $400 for its second Bloom and Berry Bash;
- The American Cancer Society, Clearfield/Elk Unit, was given $875 to help promote colorectal health through free clinics;
- Central Pennsylvania Community Action Agency Inc. received $400 for its Group Workcamps, which bring individuals and youths from around the country to the area to perform home repairs for low income, elderly and disabled families;
- Haven House Shelter, received $400 to help with improvements and repairs to their shelter;
- Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania got $500 for mobile food pantries in Clearfield County;
- Kitchen of Care-West Side United Methodist Church in Clearfield was given $500 to help them continue to provide a free meal each Monday;
- Pentz Run Youth Services Inc. in DuBois, got $400 to assist them in re-roofing its main building that provides emergency shelter.
For the 2013 grant award competition, a total of 11 applications were submitted, each of which represented a service or program in support of local communities. The grant recipients were selected through a competitive review process from all applications submitted from throughout Clearfield County.
These grants were made from money held by the foundation in its Community Fund. According to Kevin McMillen, foundation president, “The Clearfield County Charitable Foundation is pleased to be able to award grants to support important projects.
“Unfortunately, the foundation received more requests for high quality programs and services than we were able to fund this year. It is our hope that as our Community Fund grows, we will be able to provide a greater number of grants in future years.”
The foundation’s Community Fund represents an endowment established for the specific purpose of making grants to worthwhile projects benefitting Clearfield County communities. The fund was established and continues to grow from contributions received from individuals, organizations and businesses. The foundation accepts donations to the Community Fund at any time during the year.
Established in 2004, the Clearfield County Charitable Foundation is one of more than 300 community foundations in the United States, and its purpose is to enhance the quality of life in Clearfield County through the support of services that promote health, education, social welfare, public and urban affairs, arts and culture, conservation and the environment. The foundation accomplishes this by stimulating the establishment of endowments to serve local communities now and in the future, and by awarding grants to local charitable organizations.
